VMware Sr. SRE / Site Reliability Engineer – SDDC Service on Service Provider Cloud in Bengaluru, India

The Business VMware’s Cloud Strategy and the Cloud Provider Software Business Unit (CPSBU) is focused on enabling a Multi-Cloud, Multi-Device World where seamless delivery of cloud services to end customers across a global network of heterogeneous clouds and endpoints is a reality. The Solutions Engineering team, within CPSBU, is at the heart of this transformational journey and is working on a few key initiatives to realize this vision. One such initiative is “SDDC Everywhere” that envisions a common SDDC dialtone across the Cloud Provider landscape and enables instant portability and ensures scale and performance assurances across these platforms. The development team for this initiative is based wholly in Bangalore, India and we are seeking individuals who are excited about solving complex technical problems and deliver these solutions to the market. You will be part of a new and exciting team that is responsible for building and testing a set of critical platform services that is used by partners and VMware to build and deliver infrastructure components/services that operate at high reliability and performance at scale with minimum human touch for our customers. This is a very hands-on a hands-on job where you will bring in a mix of technical/architectural skills, business insight, along with a deep understanding of the requirements and challenges of service delivery that will help in the implementation, test and delivery of the platform services. Required skills:

  • You have a proven track record of challenging projects, showing 7+ years of experience in SRE/Devops role

  • SRE provides hands-on expertise during service impacting events and technical escalations (e.g. analysis / trouble shooting of systems and servers). This also includes configuration changes to production systems, as well as standardization of trouble shooting procedures

  • Strong experience in DevOps and implementation of CD pipelines using Jenkins

  • Strong experience in Unix / Linux / ESX systems administration and networking

  • Directs RCA and gauges systems status against established base line. This role requires the right candidate to demonstrate an analytical mind-set, natural curiosity, initiative and the willingness to go "beyond” in determining trigger events and root cause

  • The SRE standardizes and maintains internal technical documentation (e.g. Wiki, run-books) and improves technical situational awareness (i.e. implement and monitoring of key metrics)

  • The SRE will drive sustainable solutions across functions with minimum or no supervision

  • Work closely with Partner and Support team to rollout the fix. Ability to work collaboratively to convince others in their field of expertise is expected

  • Working with design engineering, propose architectural changes, and fosters communication between different organizational units

  • Experience in creating scripts and runbooks to remediate issue

  • Experienced in Software Development and some cloud operations with ability to work with operational knowledge of Software Revision tracking and Release Management desired

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences preferred, or equivalent degree & work experience necessary

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

  • Applied practical experience with Systems Thinking (ability to analyze systems and its components), as well as analytical methods

  • The SRE is expected to be available for on call duty as well as for application support during off-hours, as needed.

  • The SRE is continuously improving his/her specialist knowledge and takes on new areas to support the team. The SRE also educates his/her co-workers, and serves as a subject matter expert in his/her field of specialty for the organization.
