Your Opportunity

Stantec is currently seeking an Environmental Assessment Coordinator to provide technical support on environmental projects with a focus on environmental assessments under the federal Impact Assessment Act and British Columbia Environmental Assessment Acts. This position will be part of Stantec’s Environmental Services team that provides the full range of expertise needed to address a variety of technical, permitting and approval requirements. We provide integrated, multidisciplinary services to identify and assess liabilities and risks. Our staff of professionals includes specialists in marine biology, wetland science, wildlife biology, soil science, fisheries biology, botany, hydrogeology, hydrology, water resources management, forestry, habitat and ecosystem restoration, permitting, GIS, information management, environmental monitoring, in-situ/ex-situ remedial design and implementation, human health and ecological risk assessments, air quality permitting and reporting, pipeline compliance, stormwater permitting and planning, and audit support services.

We are looking for a well-organized and enthusiastic individual who will work closely with our Project Managers and will be part of a multidisciplinary project team. The ideal candidate is a great communicator with a basic understanding of the federal and provincial environmental assessment process, who can not only support the operational management but also technical components of the project. The role also provides a great opportunity to support an environmental assessment from the start with an option to continue working on the file throughout the full lifecycle of the project.

The position is for a term of 6 months of part-time hours (22.5 hours per week) with a potential of being extended and may grow to full-time hours. This position is eligible for benefits.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Promote a strong health and safety culture and actively participate in Stantec’s Health, Safety, Security and Environment Program

  • Coordinate support, including tracking of assignments, scopes, schedules budgets, and deliverables

  • Support communications with the project team, clients and regulators, business development

  • Prepare reports and other technical writing as assigned by the Project Manager

  • Ability to work with multiple teams and on multiple deadlines

  • Provide support with organizing and documenting meetings, following-up on action items

  • Organize and share information effectively amongst different disciplines

  • Support quality assurance and control aspects of the project

  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned to support the project

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Strong interpersonal and social skills and ability to interact across a broad range of audiences and technical backgrounds including internal and external clients and regulatory agencies

  • Basic knowledge of the federal and provincial environmental assessment process and experience working on environmental assessments

  • Demonstrated technical writing skills

  • Strong communication skills including verbal and the ability to give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate

  • Strong data analysis, record keeping/tracking, and computer skills (Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

  • Possess logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems

  • Licensed to operate a motor vehicle and able to maintain a valid driver’s license

Education and Experience

Bachelor or graduate degree in environmental planning, environmental science, biology, engineering, or a related discipline from a recognized university

Minimum of 2 years of experience coordinating environmental projects

Work experience in the energy sector is an asset

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods. Occasional fieldwork may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
