Amec Foster Wheeler Piping Materials Specialist in Calgary, Alberta

Wood in Calgary is recruiting for a Piping Materials Specialist for our Downstream & Chemicals office. This position is fixed term for a one month period only. No relocation assistance will be provided.


  • Create and maintain all data sheets for valves

  • Create, specify and maintain data sheets for piping specialty (SP) items, such that the items can be purchased

  • Assist with the assembling of piping bulk material requisitions, defining all relevant documentation / requirements

  • An awareness and understanding of non-destructive testing examination methods/requirements

  • Display an awareness of corrosion characteristics and welding processes

  • Review offers from suppliers and perform a technical bid evaluation of the materials offered

  • Make a technical assessments and recommendations when required

  • Post purchase order placement, review and approve supplier documentation for the related piping components

  • Visit the suppliers premises to attend kick-off / alignment meetings, the testing of piping components or clarification meetings

  • Liaise with the engineering disciplines: Piping Design, Stress Analysis, Process, Instruments, Static Equipment, Procurement and Material Control

  • Preparation of Bill of Materials

  • Identifying tie in locations and prepare 2D tie in sketches

  • Development of 2D layout drawings in AutoCAD

  • Preperation Piping Study sketches

  • Liaise with the Lead Piping MTO Engineer regarding the interpretation of the Client’s specifications and standards

  • Assist with the preparation of technical work practices to ensure consistent working methods

  • Assist the Piping Lead in Planning and Execution Progress

  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering

  • Minimum 15 years experience in EPCM multi-national companies

  • Canadian experience in conceptual, front-end and detial engineering on various large capital projects in oil & gas including Refinery, Upgrader, SAGD, and Fertilizers

  • Hands-on field experience in construction, operations and reliability / maintenance engineering, inspections and workshop repairs and turnarounds will be considered an asset

  • Knowledge of the following codes: B31.1 Power Piping, B31:2 Fuel gas Piping, B31.3 Process Piping and B31.4 Pipeline Transpotation for Liquids and Slurries

  • Detailed knowledge and proven application in all aspects of Piping Materials

  • Keep abreast of latest technology for piping materials and investigate technical acceptability of new products and methods

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel

  • Must be legally able to work in Canada at time of application
