Semi-Auto Welder (SAW & GMAW Overlay)
We have several opportunities for Semi-Auto Welders (SAW & GMAW Overlay) to join our production team at our facility in Cambridge, ON. Each member of our team plays a critical role in BWXT Canada’s success and in ensuring we meet our customers’ quality, cost and delivery expectations. Our Welders are considered the best in the industry and we are proud of the high level of technical skills they demonstrate every day. These opportunities consist of fully qualified status as well as opportunities for Learners who are working up to the fully qualified status.
Set-up, operate and troubleshoot GMAW Overlay and Submerged Arc Welding equipment to perform welding operations on company products to quality standards.
Read and interpret Production Orders, Drawings, Shop Instruction Sheet (SIS), Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS), plan and organize the welding process, weld consumable card; identify and verify workpiece material, settings, weld head, power source, positioners, manipulator booms, rotators, etc.
Perform manual welding to join parts such as backing bars, run-off and starting plates, grounding bolts and test bars to support own work.
Interpret weld beads deposited and make required adjustments to equipment.
Additional welder qualifications in SMAW or FCAW, as required, to support primary job function.
Basic understanding of blueprints
Proven commitment to workplace safety.
Commitment to quality and the ability to work as a positive, effective team member, willing to go the extra mile to ensure we meet our customer expectations.
Successful completion of an intermediate welding program such as Welding Technologist or Welding Techniques.
Good submerged arc welding experience would be an asset.
Ability to read and understand/interpret drawings, specifications, operating procedures, work orders, etc.
Basic level blueprint reading skills.
Must be comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights.
