Pfizer Compliance Country Lead in Escazu, Costa Rica


The CAC Country Compliance Lead is responsible for providing oversight, strategic insights and support for implementation of the elements of an effective compliance program at the market level.


  • Partner with key business and enabling function leaders to develop and implement a country Compliance program based on global, regional and local compliance strategies and priorities

  • Coordinate with other compliance support functions to develop a holistic view on commercial quality & compliance, including compliance with MOH regulations, local pharma association rules, local laws and applicable corporate policies & procedure

  • Oversee a comprehensive strategy and operational approach to establish a culture of integrity, accountability and compliance across all business groups and functions in country

  • Oversee the execution of annual country risk assessment and set the strategic direction for country compliance activities based on assessment results.

  • Coordinate, lead, and/or support in-country risk mitigation activities through strategic advice, policy/procedure support, market-level training, communication campaigns, and monitoring

  • Assist country in the establishment of a local quality & compliance management system built along the principles of continuous improvement

  • Coordinate cross-functional consultative bodies and/or approval committees formed to manage compliance risks associated with activities, initiatives or third party relationships

  • Collaborate and coordinate with Compliance Investigations and support the effective mitigation of identified issues.

  • Partner and collaborate with partners across the organization to advise management and drive the implementation of applicable internal policies, procedures, programs and practices related to compliance; provide in-market support and liaise to ensure consistent guidance and consultation

  • Collaborate with necessary stakeholders to ensure the proper policies and oversight structures are in place to identify and mitigate risks related to third parties in country, including but not limited to Business Development Transactions (e.g. plans for new joint ventures, acquisitions) in or including country, as required

  • Identify training needs and build customized and effective planning and materials in coordination with other functions; support adequate training on corporate and industry compliance matters

  • Develop local Compliance Champions and build a strong internal compliance network integrated with the global/regional goals

  • Support regional Compliance projects designed to benefit all markets

  • Represent Pfizer and Pfizer's ethical priorities before external stakeholders (e.g. MOH, pharma associations);develops and maintains effective networking with industry compliance professionals; participates as active member of local industry associations focused on ethics and compliance


  • University Degree in Law, Finance, Business, Medicine, or Science with strong academic background. Legal degree preferred but not required

  • 5-8 years of professional experience in Compliance, Legal, Business Operations, Consulting and/or Program Management

  • Comprehensive understanding of the local regulatory environment (as it relates to compliance), relevant international and local Codes of Practice, guidelines, regulations and US FCPA, as well as applicable Pfizer policies and procedures (for internal candidates only

  • Pharmaceutical/healthcare industry experience, and local experience with multinational companies are strongly preferred

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills in English; Spanish preferred

  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem solving and strategic thinking skills; with ability to see the big picture as well as the detailed and specific relationships between business topics

  • Ability to summarize and articulate complex concepts clearly and efficiently

  • Ability to partner with key in-market business leaders as a trusted strategic advisor

  • Ability to understand foreign cultures and sensibilities and to communicate effectively in a global environment

  • Self-directed, sole contributor; ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team to resolve complex matters

  • Demonstrated leadership and collaboration skills

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced, evolving work environment

  • High level of organization and efficiency with demonstrated attention to detail
