Overview of the position

The Electrical / Electronics Quality Control (EEQC) Technician reports to the VP Quality Assurance and is responsible for in-process and formal inspections for any electrical or electronics systems, including but not limited to, sub-assemblies, cabling, and wire harnesses, at all stages of construction. The position is responsible for ensuring specifications, standard operating procedures (SOP's), and work instructions are in accordance at each stage of production.

The EEQC Technician will also perform specific testing of electrical and electronic systems and sub-systems such as verification of Ethernet switches, PLC, VFD, and DMX Controller configuration, and other equipment as required with assistance and or direction from Engineering.

The position performs daily in-process quality control inspections to identify non-conformances with contract requirements, develops corrective actions, and communicates requirements to the appropriate stake-holders.

The EEQC Technician may also attend formal inspections with clients and regulatory bodies when required.

This is a new role within the company with potential for growth.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs daily in-process quality inspections of specific work. Documents and communicates results to responsible supervisors

  • Attends formal inspections with customers and regulatory bodies if and as required

  • Documents all non-conformances and provides results to responsible supervisors and the QA/QC Department

  • Works with trade and area supervisors to improve in-process quality

  • Performs gap analyses of work instructions and SOP's for trade specific systems. Communicates results to respective areas, and assists in modifying or adding work instructions and SOP's as required

  • Maintains quality files for trade specific area

  • Performs periodic audits of trade specific suppliers to ensure compliance with contract requirements

  • May be required to review specifications, work instructions and SOP's to determine trade specific quality requirements for each contract

  • May be required to develops new and repair build Inspection and Test Plans for trade specific systems

  • Train other members of the QC department as required.

Education and Experience

  • 5 years relevant experience with 2 years experience in QA/QC inspections

  • Formal Quality Assurance Certifications an asset

Skills, Knowledge, and Required Competencies

  • Solid understanding of fabrication, installation, and testing of electrical and electronic systems

  • Strong technical skills including an understanding of quality techniques and their application to electro-mechanical systems

  • Working knowledge of PLC?s, VFD?s, and IP address configuration a definite asset

  • Working knowledge of quality control and inspection procedures

  • Understanding of mechanical systems and sub-systems an asset

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Strong technical writing skills

  • Customer service focus

  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and integrity

  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint

  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize, and problem solve

  • Good judgement and reasoning skills

  • Ability to work with limited direction
