BMO Financial Group Lead Functional Testing Quality Assurance Specialist in Toronto, Ontario


The Quality Assurance Lead(QA Lead) is accountable to provide QA solution oversight and leadership, and aportion of development, in the delivery of our marketing site pages. Theseactivities may include interacting and negotiating with other QA and developers,designers, writers, scrum masters, digital managers, product owners and otherinternal and external groups. In addition, the QA Lead may document and create automatedtest cases for highly complex functions and execute and verify those test casesand reporting scripts as part of their delivery. In performing this job, the QALead follows the functional testing and development processes and proceduresset out at the agile or QA/development group level. The QA Lead provides inputon the effectiveness and efficiency of these processes and procedures and, whenappropriate, recommends improvement.


  • Writes new and updates existing test scripts, including integration with automation tools (i.e., design, execution plan, and data preparation) in order to correctly guide subsequent testing activities

  • Participates in the agile ceremonies with the team

  • Participates in process improvement initiatives by providing feedback on deployed processes and helping with the piloting and training on agile development methodologies in order to optimize those processes and methodologies

  • Monitors quality of work of the agile team to ensure the quality of delivery - including accessibility

  • Verifies the performance of medium to high complexity pages in order to demonstrate the integrity of the solution

  • Creates supporting documentation (such as how-to’s or release notes) to facilitate the proper publishing of completed pages

  • Reviews and interprets all documentation related to testing, including user stories, design specifications, copy decks, in order to provide input to the agile team regarding the planning of testing activities

  • Delivers test strategy (including automated and manual tests), costing, timeline, resourcing (in collaboration with the scrum master and resource manager), scheduling, distribution of work, distribution of new and regression test packages, and sign-off, to ensure an effective and efficient testing approach

  • Trains new QA team members joining the agile team

  • Coaches QA and developers on the team on an ongoing basis

  • Records and reports statistical data relevant to the automated and functional testing effort (e.g., work hours and rework, defect rate)


  • 5 years of work experience in QA Automation and/or B.S./B.A. in computer science, engineering, information systems, math or business

  • Previous experience leading, mentoring and coaching junior QA analysts and developers

  • experience working with stakeholders across the business and development teams
