Senior Pipeline Engineer – Burnaby, BC
As part of a project team, the Senior Pipeline Engineer will be responsible for design of transmission pipelines and related facilities from conceptual stage to final design phase, and support construction as required. The Senior Pipeline Engineer will also support the project manager by providing technical direction and coordination within the project team including (but not limited to) checking of deliverables and training of junior staff, as well as provide technical details to support pipeline design and specifications.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Supports the Project Manager / other Pipeline Engineers in the proposal, FEED and detailed design stages of projects;
Supports the Project Manager / other Pipeline Engineers by leading the detailed design phase
Directs third party engineering teams to obtain specialist design input;
Insures accuracy and completeness of technical data including resource information, calculations and code interpretation for pipe, valves, fittings, coatings, C.P. , crossings, bending, and ILI facilities;
Participates in the development of project organization and work breakdown structures;
Lead in good project management practices within interdisciplinary functions (drafting, GIS, consultants);
Supports project teams as well as those assigned to field positions;
Provides support for cost reports detailing budgets, approved changes, commitments and forecasts from available information and historical trends;
Prepares and processes input to the design control system for assigned projects (such as Pep and DBM);
Performs analytical review and verification of design drawings, review work of others; stamp and sign calculations, reportsand drawings as required;
Routinely provides accurate cost updates and trends for assigned projects;
Routinely provides schedule updates and identifies constrictions and/or efficiencies;
Assess the impact of design changes on schedule and costs and prepare trends;
Participates in efforts to improve project management by proposing process or tool improvements, developing specifications, supporting implementation of new technologies;
Provides expertise and act as a resource to the team on “how to” apply the tools, processes and practices to the given project;
Provides direction to procurement, participate in bid evaluations and prepare vendor recommendations for the client;
Qualifications and Attributes:
B. Sc. in Engineering (mechanical or civil disciplines) of a recognized university or college;
Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng), or be willing and eligible for registration in both provinces of British Columbia and Alberta;
15+ years of pipeline design and construction experience in Western Canada (Alberta, BC) is required;
Experience must be related to high pressure oil and gas transmission pipelines;
Comfortable acting as the Engineer of Record and stamping a variety of engineering designs, drawings and technical documents;
Good technical knowledge and understanding of applicable CSA codes;
Demonstrated analytical ability;
Experience with summarizing technical results and producing management reports;
Demonstrated ability to identify problems and develop creative solutions;
Experience in writing work scopes and specifications;
Experience in a EPCM environment is considered an asset;
Strong oral and written communication skills;
Ability to work effectively as a member of a team or independently
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments.
This position will be based in Burnaby, British Columbia but will require occasional field visits to various locations across Alberta and British Columbia.
